Fairy Tale Exploration: Sleeping Beauty
I. Questions about Sleeping Beauty 1. How could someone consider this a fairytale? What are some things in this story that makes it one? 2. What could someone consider to be the most important element (object/action) to the story and why? 3. Why do you think Maleficent chose a spinning wheel out of everything? 4. Without the fairies how would the story be different? 5. How is the story of Sleeping Beauty similar to a lot of other fairy tales? 6. What are some cause and effect of the story, state something that if it would have never happened something else would have never happened. II. Patterns 1. Number of three- A lot of times in fairy tales things will be in groups of three, like the fairy god mother, three blind mice, three daughters in Cinderella, three doors in Pan’s Labyrinth and more. Three has just became to be known the magical number and after all fairy tales are magical. 2. Magic- they have an element of magic, either being fairies, spells, wizards and witches, or living in a beautiful palace as a royalty and living a happily ever after, but not all fairy tales have to have royalty or magic, but something that is just plain out of the ordinary that you would not see in real life such as a talking wolf in Little Red Riding Hood. III. Connections of elements. - I think that the element of magic is very important, because without it Sleeping Beauty would not have the spell casted on her, also the spinning wheel is a significant element because without it the magical spell would have never fallen through and the story would not be what it is. |
