Reflection: Fantasy like a mixture of fairy tales and realistic fiction. some of the characters and some of the setting may be true but there is still an element of things that you would not see happening in real life are happening. One good example of this could be Charlotte's Web, in this story the animals talk and that is not something that would really happen. As a class we read "The Tale of Despereaux" which was a story about a mouse that went on an adventure and imagined that he was a knight. Obviously this would never happen in real life but it is fun to think about. Another great example of Fantasy would be "Harry Potter" obviously Hogwarts is not real, and all of the imaginary creatures and the wizard world are not real either, but it is more interesting to the reader to imagine tha they are these people rather than someone out of someone out of realistic novel for instance. Fantasy novels can be a fun read in the classroom as well, this can help spark students imagination.
How is it different from Fairy tales? ... Fairy tales include magic, spells, unknown lands and Fantasy does not. Fantasy is not based of "magic" and has more of a setting to work with.
Low Stakes Writing Assignment: What makes "The Tale of Despereaux" magical, is not only the fact that it has a talking mouse but the fact that we go into an imaginary world with this mouse, and their are some magical elements such as knights, princesses, adventure, imagination and more. When I am reading a Fantasy Book I want to be entertained and my imagination sparked, being those characters should be a whole other world for me and that is what I am looking for.
