Reflection: Multicultural Fiction can open students eyes to a variety of different cultures from around the world. I believe that it is good to be exposed to other cultures and a variety of different customs and beliefs and that is just what this genre can do. When students read these novels it will give them a better understanding of what life is like for other people, and give them a greater appreciation for others around them regardless of ethnicity or race. For this genre we looked at the novel "Homeless Bird" and what life is like from the eyes of a young Indian Girl. Just like a Historical novel, a multicultural novel must also be accurate to what the culture and life is like for the people of that culture.
What makes it Fiction? .... The characters and story are made up while details and the life of these people hold true.
Low Stakes Writing Assignment: I believe that that "Homeless Bird" is a very accurate novel that depicts the life of the Indian culture. Some elements of the culture that hold true is the arranged marriage and the customs of the family. The fact that the daughter gets married at a young age could also be an accurate depiction of the culture. There are also other elements such as marrying for a dowry and more.
