My Reflection : Realistic Fiction can be defined as a story in which the events could have very well taken place, the setting is normal, characters are normal but yet the story and events itself are made up. This semester we talked about "Bridge to Terabithia" in which the Jesse and his friend Leslie are completely normal kids using their imagination to escape the real world. The setting is real and the story is actually written for the Author's son who had a friend that passed away. These stories can be true and based of real stories/events but they do not have to be. This is my all time favorite genre of children's literature because these characters are so easy to relate to and so it makes for an interesting read. This type of genre can be used in the classroom to relate to students and to give them an interesting read with a verifiable plot. I would absolutely use this type of literature in the classroom.
Low Stakes Writing Assignment:
1.How do you think the setting and Jesse’s family life affects the storyline such as the events in the story?
-I feel as if his home life is the reason that he wants to escape to this imaginary world called Terabithia, and the setting leads to the ability to create this world.
2.How would you describe the relationship between Jesse and Leslie
-I feel as if they are a lot alike in ways such as loving to run and their use of imagination and this helps them get through a lot of struggles in life.
Low Stakes Writing: "The Watson's Go to Birmingham." This book is appealing because it has a lot of humor and funny characters and scenes in it such as the scene when the older brother gets his tongue stuck on the car mirror. This book is sure to keep kids interested and laughing the whole read, with great morals, lovable characters and funny jokes this is a great read for kids. another thing that makes this book appealing is the dialect in which it is written, makes it easy for children to read and comprehend. Another appealing thing about this book is that the characters and their life are relatable to the students lives as well.
